Muhammed Ali Fights For Charity
Boxing legend Muhammed Ali has raised over $52 million through the efforts of his Celebrity Fight Night event for various charities. And with performances from Reba McEntyre, Jon Bon Jovi and various celebrity auctions,  you can see why it’s a hot ticket.

I love Reba McEntyre. It’s because she’s a survivor, with gentle hands and the heart of a fighter. That, and I’m pretty sure she’s part elf, which is awesome.

I’m glad Michael Phelps was able to put down the bong long enough to make it to the event. Ha! I’m only teasing! Besides, there’s nothing I could say to him that Reba hasn’t already lectured him about. She loves her kids and never stops.

The following article from Idol Stalker focuses on Jordin Sparks and Michael Johns. Please click through to the source to view all the pictures found there, and return to our site as we fill our gallery with some of the best pictures ever taken.

In the time since Celebrity Fight Night began 14 years old, the event has managed to raise over $52 million, with the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute as the primary beneficiary along with numerous other charities. It sounds like a great event!

Michael Johns Talks About His New Album In OK! Magazine

Here’s the latest interview with Michael Johns talking about his debut album “Hold Back My Heart”, which is to be released sometime this year. His first single “Heart On My Sleeve” will be out soon, rumored to be just weeks away. The following article from OK! Magazine even speaks briefly about Michael Johns summer tour.
March 26, 2009
Idol's Michael Johns To Release Album

Michael Johns (Juan Rico Fame Pictures)Michael Johns was widely considered to be the most shocking early elimination in the last season of American Idol.

Fans adored him, and even cold-hearted Simon Cowell said he'd miss the hunky Australian rocker after his untimely departure.

But now he's back, and it sounds like his premature eviction hasn't done him too much harm after all.

In fact, OK! has learned that his first post-Idol album, Hold Back My Heart, is set for release on Downtown records in June.

“It’s a rock and soul record,” he told us at a private Seal concert at the W Hotel in Westwood March 24.

"We stripped it down so that it sounds like Otis Redding," the Australian said.

"I was bummed at the time when I got kicked off Idol, but now I’m just so happy," he said. "My wife and I are doing well [now that Idol is over]."

Expect Johns to take his band on the road this summer for at least a few promotional dates. First off, the singer will appear this weekend at the Fight Night event in Phoenix, Arizona alongside featuring Jon Bon Jovi, Muhammad Ali, Michael Phelps and Reba McEntire. Tickets start at $1500 for the charity event

Is Michael Johns On Downtown Records?

Has Michael finally given us some new information? It seems like he has signed with Downtown Records- the same indie label that manages Gnarls Barkley! Yay! It sounds awesome. You can watch the interview here. And we finally have Michael confirming the date of his album release on tape.

Some information about Downtown Records (from wiki):

Music on the Downtown label is distributed by Universal Music's Fontana and for certain releases, a joint venture with Atlantic Records. Michael Johns Announces His Debut Single "Heart On My Sleeve""

As promised in several of my previous articles, I'm back with the news we've all been waiting to hear. Michael Johns has just confirmed that the first single from his debut album is "Heart On My Sleeve", which will be released on March 31st, 2009. Michael says that radio play for the new single should be added the following week. His debut album is titled Hold Back My Heart and will drop on June 2, 2009.

So much has happened since the first article I wrote about Michael in July of 2008. He spent a couple of months touring with the American Idol Summer Tour, which finished its run back in SeptMichael Johnsember of 2008. His travel is as constant now, as is the demand for him to appear at venues across the nation.  His popularity and the demand for his music increases with each passing day.

Most of you who have followed his journey since the tour ended, already know what he's been up to. I'll hit just a few of the highlights for those of you that might have missed some of the news. Here's a list of his top accomplishments since September 2008.

In October, he traveled back to his native Australia to perform in his hometown for Perth's Telethon. That same month, he went to the Philippines on his first solo tour playing four different venues to thousands of fans at the Ayala Malls.  This is where we first heard of his future gift to charity, which I'll describe a bit more when we get to the month of December.

On November 11, 2008, David Foster & Friends DVD was released featuring Michael as he performed a two-song medley "She's A Beauty/Man In Motion".  The star-studded DVD celebrates David Foster's impressive musical career with songs that span his 30+ year history as a hit songwriter/performer. Michael, along with some of the biggest names in the business performed some of those hits at the request of David Foster himself.

On December 9, 2008, Michael Johns did something unprecedented for his first post Idol song release. He gave the entire proceeds of his song "Another Christmas" away to charity. News of that gift was a featured article in BC Magazine's Holiday Special 2008 – Spirit Of The Holidays. You can read the entire story behind the song in 'American Idol Finalist Michael Johns Gives The Gift That Keeps On Giving'.

The New Year ushered in more news of special projects and collaborations. Michael Johns, with Rye Randa, and Jeff Foxworth produced and scored the soundtrack for the Don't Look Down SoundtrackShaun White documentary DVD - Don't Look Down- The Height Of Competition which was released on January 9, 2009.

The soundtrack was an independent project from the documentary film and was made available for digital download through Amazon.com and iTunes on January 20, 2009.

This soundtrack boasts seventeen songs and was nominated for Best Original Music Score at the 2009 X-Dance Film Festival.  Sports entusiasts already know that X-Dance is the equivalent of the Sundance Film Festival, but is specifically for action sports films.

When Michael's co-writer and producer Rye Randa learned that international fans such as those who live in the Philippines and Australia weren't able to download the soundtrack from Amazon and iTunes, he made the soundtrack available for purchase through a direct link to his website www.ryemusic.com. Full details on the soundtrack can be found in the BC Magazine articles 'Interview: Rye Randa Discusses Shaun White's Don't Look Down' and in a followup piece 'Don't Look Down Soundtrack Release Date Announced'.

By February, one of the songs from the soundtrack was in such huge demand from Life Is OkayMichael Johns and Brooke White fans, TRP Records decided to release the duet "Life Is Okay" as a single. Michael specifically had the duet with Brooke White in mind when he wrote one of the verses to the song. Here's what he said about the song in an interview with EW.com.

Michael Johns and Brooke White
''Life Is Okay,'' Digital single release (2009)

Johns explained in a recent visit to EW.com that he was hoping to achieve a Tom Petty-Stevie Nicks vibe when he paired up with his fellow season 7 finalist for this single from the soundtrack to Don't Look Down. And while that may sound like a tall order, there's a timeless quality to the interplay of Johns' gruff delivery with White's reedy voice as they tackle the song's simple-yet-gorgeous melody. — MS

That brings us up to March, but only lists a few of the highlights from the past several months. To be quite honest, there's no way one article could fully encompass everything this artist has already done. Michael has performed the National Anthem at Wrigley's Stadium in Chicago, and again at The Pep Boys Race in Atlanta along with a concert there the same day. He also performed both the American and Australian National Anthems at America's Polo Cup in Washington.

He has walked the red carpet in NYC at the invitation of Nicole Kidman for the movie premiere of "Australia", performed at the ESPN Next Party at the Superbowl, attended the 2009 Grammy Awards, the 2009 Academy Awards, attended the opening for Disney's American Idol Experience, designed a T-Shirt for Playboy's Rock The Rabbit (a special March Music Edition), appeared on television shows like Ellen, Access Hollywood, Idol Extra and The Today Show, just to name a few. He's been such a huge part in so many charity events, there's not enough room to list them all here.

American Idol Season 8 has already had Michael Johns and Carly Smithson back to mentor its contestants during Hollywood Week Boot Camp.  When there wasn't enough time in the show to include the footage, AI asked the two of them if they would appear on the show to perform the duet "The Letter" again. Although most of his fans wanted so badly for Michael to perform his new single that night instead, we were thrilled to see him grace that stage once again with his good friend Carly Smithson.

Maybe American Idol will have Michael back to perform "Heart On My Sleeve" when the timing is right. We fans can only hope so. A new idea for a TV show has been suggested, and would have several of the American Idol Alumni be brought back for another reality show called American Idol Alumni All-Stars Challenge. The idea was recently submitted as a concept for a show that would bring back the most shocking eliminations in American Idol history to compete with one another. Michael Johns was listed as one of twelve potential Alumni contestants.  You can read more about that pitch for a series at Associated Content.

Michael has also launched a new way to stay in touch with his fans. Through a service called Jamship, subscribers receive recorded messages to their phone each week from Michael himself to hear what he's up to at the moment. Click on the Jamship name to go directly to his subscription service.

Fans that subscribe are raving about the personal touch a phone call adds. For up to the minute news about Michael Johns, you can follow the daily updates at Michael Johns Central. (http://michaeljohnscentral.com/). The new site is still under construction, but will have the highest quality in media, merchandise links, news, downloads, photos, tour dates, forum discussions, and videos. It's your one stop shop for everything Michael Johns.

You can read along here at BC Magazine to keep yourself informed as well. When there is breaking news of a magnitude the size of Michael Johns new single and album hitting the shelves, you can bet it'll be broadcast worldwide in BC Magazine for you.

At least the fans now know for certain that the new single "Heart On My Sleeve" is officially out on March 31st, and we can wait with unbridled anticipation for the album Hold Back My Heart to hit the shelves on June 2nd.

I'll be back to inform you of any videos, tours, and details not currently known. Or perhaps I'll have to come back and bring you what other surprises or updates we haven't yet heard about. You just never know with Michael Johns what might next be on the horizon. Stick around folks! This artist is just getting started down the path to a huge solo career, and we fans are in for a very long wonderful ride.

Until next time… Cheers and best wishes.

Michael Johns Competing On American Idol Alumni Challenge?

Michael Johns fans might just have something new to look forward to on American Idol, if the following contest story comes true. It seems someone has suggested that American Idol bring back 12 of its finest Alumni and artists with the most memorable performances. Michael Johns is listed as having two of them, with Bohemian Rhapsody and Light My Fire.

If nothing else, it's an interesting concept to bring back the best of the best. What do you think? Should Michael Johns be on American Idol again? This time the competition will be against some of the best known Idol Alumni that came from the previous 6 Seasons before him, and against some of the favorites from Season 7 as well.

Have a look at the list below to see which former "Idols" are being suggested for the first 6 week summer season of the American Idol Alumni All Stars Challenge. My thanks to Michael Johns Central and AC.

American Idol Alumni All-Stars Showdown: New Rule Prompts New Show Idea
March 16, 2009 by Aly Adair

Dear American Idol Producers: What About the American Idol Alumni All-Stars Challenge?
American Idol producers decided on a new rule that was announced during the Season 8 Top 13 week March 8th. American Idol judges can now vote for one, and only one, American Idol contestant to be saved from elimination after America's vote. This rule was tried and was successful on other International Idol shows so they decided to bring it to American Idol.

The new rule makes sense and could change the life of one talented American Idol who may not have the relentless fan base that Idols like Anoop Dawg and William Hung have. William Hung was the funny, lovable Asian guy who sang She Bangs for his audition on American Idol Season 3. No, Chinese born William Hung did not die of a drug overdose as was reported on the Internet. You can visit the official William Hung fan site and see for yourself. So instead of just bringing back one Season 8 contestant, let's make a whole show out of our favorite American Idol Alums.

American Idol producers might have to pull off some major contract rights and permissions grants from recording studios, but why not have an American Idol Alumni All-Stars Challenge with American Idol faves from all the past American Idol seasons? If American Idol producers can get rights to cover The Beatles and Michael Jackson songs, why not for David Archuleta, Michael Johns and Chris Daughtry songs?

American Idol fans can remember the outstanding Alumni performances of their favorite Idols that got voted off (click the song links to view video performances below.)

The Top 12 American Idol Alumni All Stars in the AI Alumni All Stars Challenge are:

Tamyra Gray
from American Idol Season 1 who sang A House Is Not A Home

Simon Cowell said this performance by Tamyra Gray was on par with Whitney Houston and one of the best performances he has ever seen on television.

Clay Aiken
from American Idol Season 2 who sang Bridge Over Troubled Water

Jennifer Hudson
from American Idol Season 3 who sang I Have Nothing

American Idol Guest Judge Quentin Tarantino tells Jennifer Hudson: "Hudson takes on Houston and wins!"

Bo Bice from American Idol Season 4 who sang Sweet Home Alabama with Lynyrd Skynyrd

Constantine Maroulis from American Idol Season 4 who sang Bohemian Rhapsody

Chris Daughtry from American Idol Season 5 who sang I Walk the Line

Katherine McPhee from American Idol Season 5 who sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Kelly Pickler from American Idol Season 5 who sang Red High Heels

Chris Sligh from American Idol Season 6 who sang Typical. Chris Sligh is nominated for a 2009 Dove Award.

Melinda Doolittle from American Idol Season 6 who sang Home

Watch Paula Abdul cry and Simon Cowell tell Melinda Doolittle that she reminds him of a young Gladys Knight.

David Archuleta from American Idol Season 7 who sang Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and Imagine

Michael Johns from American Idol Season 7 who sang Light My Fire and Bohemian Rhapsody

Simon Cowell says Michael Johns is the most consistently good performer so far and Michael Johns just has what it takes.

What does the American Idol Alumni All Stars Challenge winner receive? Of course, the official title of American Idol Alum Star with a ton of money from iTunes downloads during the airing of the 6-week summer reality television show!

You heard it first from Aly Adair, Associated Content's American Idol Source!

Michael Johns - From The Beginning

If you're an American Idol fan, you already know Michael Johns is the sexy Aussie whose unexpected elimination caused an uproar to sweep the nation in America Idol's Season 7, which aired in 2007-2008.

The American Idol Tour 2008 ended on September 13th, 2008, but for Michael Johns, the end of the tour only marked a new beginning to his musical career. The following is an in-depth look at the man, his past, his present, and his undeniable future.

For those of you who don't watch the "reality" show, I've included a picture and a description. What you can't really appreciate in the photo on a computer screen, are the proportions at which you're looking. Athletically speaking, he's a prime specimen of manliness. His 6' 2" in height and muscular build give him a physical advantage in sports. Add to that his extremely competitive nature, and you've got yourself one Hot Aussie sportsman.

His musical journey in America began in 1998. That's when he left Australia and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he lived for six years. He attended college at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia on a tennis scholarship.

While living in Atlanta, Michael joined a USAFL Australian football rules club, and was a team player with the Atlanta Kookaburras. He left college soon after arriving to pursue his musical career. For his fans, that's where his rise to fame begins. Here's what it took to become the Michael Johns as we all know him now.

Before he was introduced to the world on American Idol with the stage name Michael Johns, he was best known by his given name, which is Michael Lee. He performed with Jeff Bramwell and Hank Barbee while living in Atlanta. Michael Lee is also the name that he used as lead singer on the EP released while with the band Film.

In 2001, Michael traveled to Los Angeles to showcase music for a number of labels, and was signed with Maverick Records. It was there he found band members Robb Torres and Kevin Haaland (guitarists), Ari Gorman (bass), and Kirke Blankenship (drums), to form the rock band The Rising.

The Rising's story is best described in the following interview with Michael, as published by:

The Rising's Michael Lee came to the US with a dream
By: Will Jordan,

While getting signed to Maverick Records was a major step for Atlanta-based rock group The Rising, the band realizes it's only the beginning. That's why the quintet is taking their music on the road, playing smaller venues and trying diligently to build a fan base.

We're playing nearly every night, said frontman Michael Lee with traces of his native Australian accent still dangling. The singer admitted touring hasn't always been an enjoyable experience. At a lot of places, people still don't know who we are, he said. We're such a new band sometimes it's unpredictable.

Lee has been singing in bands since he was very young, and was looking for a way to take it to the next level when he was given the answer by You Am I singer Tim Rogers, who was performing in 1997 at the Australian music festival Big Day Out.

I'd always been a big fan of You Am I, so when they finished their set, I snuck backstage and approached lead singer Tim Rogers for advice, Lee said. He told me if I wanted to make something happen, I had to go to the States.

The young singer packed his bags and headed for Atlanta instead of Los Angles or New York because he felt his chances were better in a smaller setting. Within a month, he met a fellow Aussie and club owner who gave him a job washing dishes and cleaning toilets and eventually allowed the fledgling vocalist to sit in occasionally with local bands. Eventually Lee met a guitarist and became the club's headlining cover band.

The next few years, Lee spent days writing and honing original songs and nights performing covers. Recording a demo in 2001, Lee went to Los Angeles where he showcased for several labels, eventually inking an exclusive pact with Maverick Records.

He then began assembling the elements of his new band, picking and choosing from the talent the LA music scene had to offer, including drummer Kirke Blankenship, guitarists Robb Torres and Kevin Haaland and bassist Ari Gorman.

The newly forged The Rising realized they had an electrifying creative energy about them when they played their songs in front of an audience. With today's technology, anyone can record an album, but not everyone can pull it off live, Lee said. We elevate it to the next level when we play live.

The singer admitted he wishes he could get into the studio and rerecord, but for now The Rising is currently touring for their debut release, Future Unknown, produced by Rick Beato and Lee, and recorded at Southern Tracks in Atlanta.

All my life I dreamed of making an album like this with a band like this, Lee said. We want to be a source of inspiration, a reason to believe, a way of seeing the world. Maybe that's a lot to ask from a bunch of simple songs, but music has made a difference in all our lives. This is our way of passing it along.
What the interview doesn't say about The Rising, is the success they should now be enjoying. His first real shot at fame was while fronting as lead singer for newly formed group The Rising. They wrote and recorded their debut album Future Unknown and perfected the level of performance excellence they demanded of themselves before taking their tour nationwide.

The band was well on its way to the stardom all of them should now be enjoying. They performed on The Rock Boat, and were featured on The Sharon Osbourne Show, a nationally syndicated television program. Ozzy's wife is well known for having good taste, and can judge exceptional talent when she sees it.

In 2003, the group performed an outstanding acoustical set at the opening of a Los Angeles Apple Store. Thankfully, that event was recorded and has been released for download as The Rising - Live At The Apple Store EP. Clicking on the link above will take you directly to the EP, which can be heard on Amazon.com.

Taking their music on the road, members of The Rising were determined to put everything that they had into their live performances. It wasn't enough to just play for the fans, they wanted the audience to experience the emotion that went into writing the songs.

Groups of this caliber and uncompromising standards are rarely found any more. Legendary bands whose music survives even now and spans decades, practiced that same dedication to excellence when they performed. Inexplicably, these musicians somehow knew what it took to connect with their audience.

Though The Rising as a band is no longer together, we are left with their stellar performances. It seems I'm not the only writer to accuse this singer and fellow musicians of evoking in us, emotions unbidden. While researching former band members for this piece, I ran across yet another writer who noticed Michael's gift of expressing the feeling that went into the artists rendition of the music.

In a blog posted at former Rising guitartist Kevin Haaland's music website, I found the following excerpt from an article by Sona Sood.
Live Review - The Rising @ The Roxy

The Rising- Live Review- Category: Music

The band took the stage with sophistication and proved they could win over a Los Angeles crowd. The lyrics are heart felt and moving as the emotions can be heard seeping out in every note Michael sings. Down to the blood that was on Kevin's fingers after the set, this band truly believes in the power of music and it comes across in their performances. Michael Lee once said he wants to create the kind of music "that puts you in a trance". This band indeed creates timeless music which will carry you away into a different world.
- excerpt from a www.riftrock.com article by Sona Sood.
You would think with the rave reviews like the one above, just landing a "Major" label contract with Maverick Records and playing brilliantly should assure the band's successful future. Most people believe that's all it takes to succeed in the music world. Just get yourself a major label record deal and play extraordinarily well in front of your audience. The equation sounds simple enough. Massive talent + Major label = Superstardom.

The Rising recorded at least thirty five songs while with this "Major" label. Eleven of those magnificent tunes ended up on its debut album - Future Unknown. Michael Johns and Rick Beato co-produced the debut CD The Rising- Future Unknown.

This album enjoys five star reviews at such sites as Amazon.com and iTunes, and it's some of the best down to earth rock music that I've ever heard. A number of songs from the album got national radio play while the band toured.

The "Major" label that was originally supposed to release the CD on September 16, 2003, withheld release of the album until Michael Johns became well known as a finalist on American Idol. That's when the label decided to put the CD on iTunes and cash in on Michael Johns' success.

Thankfully, Michael Johns' story doesn't end here. The live EP and full length CD can be heard by clicking on the named releases listed above. Videos of the band performing at the opening of the Apple Store are posted HERE. for your viewing pleasure.

At his wife Stacey's suggestion, Michael auditioned for American Idol in San Diego in 2007 and earned a spot on the show. He sailed through the competition in Hollywood and was named one of the Top 12 Finalists. In one of the most shocking eliminations ever to take place on the show, Michael finished in eighth place after never having been in the bottom three votes. That surprise elimination had all the fans quickly to arms, questioning the shows credibility, and earning Michael Johns instant celebrity status.

The next part of Michael Johns journey was encompassed in an introduction I wrote for a scrapbook given to Michael Johns from just one of his many fan sites. Here's what I wrote for them.
The American Idol Tour – 2008

No one book can fully contain the memories you'll take with you from the summer tour of 2008. It was most splendidly spent touring the nation with your friends from American Idol - Season 7. All of the Top Ten are Idols where the fans are concerned, so the following list is in no particular order. That close-knit bunch of friends who were along for your journey included, David Cook, Carly Smithson, Jason Castro, Brooke White, Chikezie, David Archuleta, Kristy Lee Cook, Ramiele Malubay, and Syesha Mercado.
These were the winners from over 100,000 people who auditioned for the show. America chose who earned the right to tour and take center stage along with you. The tour began July 1st in Glendale, AZ, and offered 53 performances in over 40 cities spanning America, and parts of Canada before ending on September 13th in Tulsa, OK. Shows were sold out as 10,000-15,000 fans flocked to the venues in droves to see their American Idols each night. Those are the stats, now let's get to the facts.

Virtually every review listed you as the star that you are. Page after page expounded your unequaled level of "arena" ready performances. With a set that included Queen's "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions", your soulful rendition of Dolly Parton's, "It's All Wrong, But It's Alright", and your stunning Aerosmith's "Dream On", tour reviews soon were claiming you took the limelight. It was clear to us all along, even before the tour shone its light on you with the special introduction in U2's "Pride".
A rumor started by one fan said the other Idols wanted you arrested for stealing the show each night. Your constant antics have filled your fans with mischief as well. Meet and greet gifts of coconut bras, and Superman capes, and Ninja poses, just to mention a few.

Most of us couldn't wait each night; just to hear what prank you'd pulled on your friends. Whoopee cushions in dressing rooms, constant bantering back and forth. Silly string fights, hula-hoops, pompoms, and umbrellas, were just a few of the props for dance offs between you and David Cook, your partner in crime, and the infamous Mavid.
What an uproar it caused with the fans when they tried to take it away. Mavid rapidly became one of the highlights and most anticipated parts of the show. Sold out arenas demanded that their stars be allowed to have as much fun as we had, while watching you frolic on stage.

So many times, you expressed your gratitude in being able to share this once in a lifetime opportunity. Your appreciation showed as you accepted the gifts specially made with loving hands just for you. Playing to stadiums full of squealing fans, you stayed humble throughout the tour.
During interviews you said, "Playing 10,000 plus arena's is something reserved for the U2's and Madonna's of the world." Every chance you had, you took your love for your fans outside to the ones who were there to see you. Adoring faces awaited your arrival, for just a picture, or an autograph, and in some cases, just a glimpse of their Idol. You gave as much of yourself as you had.

While we could never hope to capture each memory that you have of this tour, pieces of what you've accomplished this summer are here for you to remember. From all of your adoring fans, we thank you for sharing your journey while you were on tour. The following pages are filled with only a few of the memories you've given to us.

Think we've gotten to the end yet? As previously mentioned, this is just the beginning. Michael's already had several releases since leaving American Idol behind. I'll be back to fill in the rest of the news and will include from September 2008 until now. Stay tuned for his debut single announcement and the album release date. You'll know those as soon as I do.

Here's an interview Michael did with Richard Arnold from USA Today which was broadcasted on an Australian radio show, 2UE. The album is called "Hold Back My Heart", and Michael says that a couple of labels are competing to release it!

MJ Radio - Produced by David Prior

Interesting tidbit:He has some phenomenal musicians working around him such as a keyboardist who used to play for Elton John and Queen! He also did another interview with Canadian Virgin Radio which played a snippet of his new single, 'Heart on My Sleeve' .
